Undertone
Group exhibition
Yeo Tze Yang, Goh Jian Hong & Bess Chan
iPreciation, Singapore
7 - 22 July 2017
Undertone brings together the work of three contemporary Singaporean painters: Yeo Tze Yang, Bess Chan and Goh Jian Hong. The exhibition functions as a collective study of the psychological, social, and structural shifts occurring within the local urban landscape.
Like the foundational layers of a canvas that dictate the tone of the final composition, the works on display isolate the quiet, often unobserved realities of the city. Rather than presenting a uniform critique, the exhibition highlights three distinct approaches to representational and abstract painting. Through their respective studio practices, the artists examine the frictions, routines, and quiet dysfunctions of modern Singapore, demonstrating how the most unassuming corners of our environment hold critical insights into our shared social fabric.
